Picnic at Satang Island 13/05/2007 |
|
This trip was different from the others as there were only a few of us and the intention was not just diving. We landed on the island on the island late and found a great spot on the beach.
After everyone settled down, me and my buddy took off for a shore dive to check out a different spot. I was very anxious to try out my camera after it was in the ‘clinic’ for a while. Corals were starting to grow on the reef and there were plenty of small fishes around. At one point we were not alone, there was a parrotfish (picture below) which makes my day. |

This crab just wouldn’t go away after we found it hiding among our dive gear. |

Huge Angelfish kept checking on us even after I told him I paid the park fee! |

This guy is not scared of me at all. I think he just woke up. |

At last, a nudibranch for me to try out my macro shoot. |

This parrotfish was big one!
When I saw a trail of narrow silt cloud, I thought it was a grouper moving away which was normal around this reef but after a few more metres, the silhouette was something else. The light blue, green and silver colour of the fish provides a natural camouflage to protect itself from predator. Wonders of mother nature at work.
It must have been about 45cm in length and weighs at least 3kg. A fish of this size always makes the reef attractive to leisure divers, just hope hunters around here don’t find out. |
