When Pam offered me this trip to Tenggol Island, I just jumped in immediately. Guess any dive enthusiast would do that too.
Right across South China Sea from where I stay, Tenggol Island is just so naturally rich in marine bio-diversity. There are not many tourist and only three basic resorts are available which carry very low capacity.
Hard and soft corals decorate the reefs making them so colourful. With the Damsels, Chromis and Wrase buzzling on top, the whole place is so alive. Just not far from the beach at the slope, I could not believe my eyes, a school of bumpheads feeding while the barracudas were patrolling the reef edge.
I was told that three Mantas were just there last month and were staying in the bay area for almost a week. Whalesharks are also a common sight at certain time of the year.
Paul, the resort manager, told me there are quite a number of dive site for the experience divers and I could not wait to come back in July for more exploring.
On top of it, what makes this trip fun is, I met a lot of great friends - Reynard, Mun Pan, Rachel Yeow, Rachel Lee, Indy, Ernest Wong, Alicia, Ah Phang, Rebecca, Ruth, Winnie, Christy and last but not least, Pam.

Turtle Conservation in Tenggol Island
Among the three resort on the island, one of it decided to take it's own action to do conservation after numerous attempt in seeking assistance.
They build their own artificial hactchery and a floating nursery. I was told by the resort manager, Paul, sometime they even have to fight with poachers in order to get to the eggs after the mother turtle return to sea.
Once hacthed, the babies are kept in the nursery until they are bigger in size to increase the survivor rate and the funds to purchase the food comes out of the resort's pocket. |
