Food
When it comes to food, everyone in Kuching will ask you to try the Kolo Mee which is noodle topped with barbecue pork! But nowadays, certain stall do add some prawns, fish balls or fish cake for added value. I used to have mine since I was a kid someway near my place at Green Road but if you are in town, you should try the one at the Carpenter Street temple which is only a block from the General Post Office. And if you are there, you must also try the fish ball soup and the pork satay (open only during tea time).
Next on the list would be Sarawak Laksa. Some say it taste like curry mee in Peninsula Malaysia but anyone from Kuching will tell you that is not true. Our laksa is rice vermicelli, bean sprout, prawn and slices of omelet serve in spicy soup. The main flavour of the soup derived from tamarind, prawn paste and spice mix. Where to have the best one? Go to the one at Ban Hock Road. It’s a shop by itself after the Indian Temple and Grand Continental Hotel. The coffee shop also serve toast and popiah (spring roll) is quite good too.
Other than the local delicacies, Kuching do offer a wide variety of western, indian, muslim to chinese food according to your taste. For western, there are a few places such as The Junk, Ipanema, Tom’s or Casa Davide. For me, I frequent Elephant Café & Bistro down at Ang Cheng Ho Road as I like their Cheesy Chicken Chop, Turkey Ham Sandwich and their selection of salads.
But of course, if the available food in Kuching is not of your taste, there is always MacDonald, KFC or Pizza Hut around.
More updates coming up soon… sorry for the inconvenience.
